Sigaram Thodu - A mix of innovations and little drawbacks
Director Gaurav made his debut with the film Thoonga Nagaram and after a long hiatus makes his comeback with this film Sigaram Thodu that stars Vikram Prabhu, Sathyaraj and Monal in lead roles. D Imman has already worked some of the best tunes with Vikram Prabhu in Kumki and now this combo returns back with this film.
Takku Takku
Vocals: Varun Parandhaman & Anthony Daasan
Lyrics: Madhan Karky
Even a simple music gains good impact with the lyrical lines of Madhan Karky. Much alike his usual paradigm, he has made use of simple and innovative lines that keeps the song going impeccably in places. The rhythmic quotients actually enhance and the singers, Varun and Anthony Dasan actually carry the song on their shoulders.
Pidikkudhae
Vocals: Jithin Raj & Shreya Ghoshal
Lyrics: Yugabharathi
There is always a treat of soulful melodies with this combination of Imman and Shreya Ghoshal. What makes the song so sweet is her flow of vocalism, which eclipses the instrumentals albeit the great ones. Jithin Raj on his part keeps the song going at best.
Scenu Scenu
Vocal: Aranarai Natraj, Tha Praphecy
Lyrics: Gana Bala
This would actually look good when watched on the screens. The song is passable and some funny lines in the song grab our attention. Gana Bala as you hear this name, you can make a distinct judgment on how the song is going to be.
Anbulla Appa
Vocal: Dr. KJ Yesudas
Lyrics: Yugabharathi
A musician is defined best by the way he balances lyrics and music. Since this song is an emotional one, which is crooned by KJ Yesudas, he has underplayed with the mild instruments, giving more prominent to the voice of this legend. After the sentimental father-son song in Kedi Billa Killadi Ranga, Amma Amma song in Dhanush’s VIP, this song is sure to paint the emotional strokes.
Sigaram Thodu
Vocals: Benny Dayal, Santhosh Hariharan, Snighdha Chandra
Lyrics: Madhan Karky
This is supposed to be a theme song in this film as it carries the film’s title. But regrettably, it lacks the powerful impact it should be. Inspite of having so many great singers, the song doesn’t evoke the right touch and even the musical panorama gets bleak here.
With couple of songs like Pidikkudhae and Anbulla Appa claiming the best showpiece in this album, rest of them are just mediocre and if the picturing is done in perfect style it would easily gain our interests in theatres.
Verdict : A mix of innovations and little drawbacks
Stars : 2.5/5
