Aambala - A clichéd drama which falls flat despite of the overflowing star-cast
Vishal has always proved himself as a darkhorse when it comes to festival releases. With an ensemble star cast and an overflowing supporting characters with Sundar C at the helm, has Aambala been made impressive?
Plot
Vishal is the son of Prabhu and Thulasi. Ramya Krishnan, Aishwarya and Kiran Rathod are Prabhu’s sisters. Due to an unfortunate incident, Prabhu is accused of murdering his father, played by Vijayakumar and earns the wrath of his three sisters for the life time. Vishal, who falls in love with Hansika, later realizes that Hansiks is Ramya Krishnan’s daughter. How Vishal succeeds in his love life and he attempts to unite his father Prabhu and three sisters forms the story of Aambala.
Performance
Vishal has probably chosen one of the weakest scripts in recent times. He has delivered a good performance as a lanky carefree guy who roams with his two brothers, played by Vaibhav and Sathish. Santhanam as Vishal’s friend offers regular wits and gags frequently which is the only positive sign of an otherwise nauseating movie. Hansika has been used as a glamorous toy by Sundar C and she has very minimal scope for performance here.
Technicalities
Sundar C is known for driving star vehicles effortlessly with ease and good care. He has utterly failed this time to deliver a good family entertainer despite of an all-star cast. The story is highly old-fashioned and full of banalities. Hiphop Tamizha has made a good debut as a composer. His songs and background score offer good range of sounds for the commercial drama, though at times it vary from over-the-top to middling.
Bottom Line
A clichéd drama which falls flat despite of the overflowing star-cast, thanks to Sundar C’s most stereotyped screenplay and blunt comical scenes.
Verdict : A clichéd drama which falls flat despite of the overflowing star-cast
Stars : 2.5/5
