SS Rajamouli's Baahubali is one of the much awaited films in Indian cinema. The film-maker is on a success ride after the victories of Magadheera and Naan Ee. Baahubali is next pan-Indian release and the biggest budgeted film in Indian cinema. Has the film lived up to all the hype and hoopla surrounding it over the past two years? 

Plot

Baahubali is the fight to earn the throne of the kingdom called Mahishmathi. The clash is between the warring brothers Shiva (Prabhas) and his cousin (Palvaaldheva). Shiva is send by his lover Avanthika (Tamannah) to save his mother Devasena (Anushka Shetty) and an ultimate revenge tale follows. Will Shiva save the life of Devasena from Palvaaldheva? The answer to this story is what Baahubali is all about. 

Positives

The film's stunning art direction and the spectacularly shot visuals are the main positives. The performance of Nassar, Ramya Krishnan and Sathyraja are formidable.

The commanding acts of Prabhas and Rana Daggubati with their muscular body is a great sight to witness on screen. Anushka Shetty evokes sympathy with her attire and Tammanha comes across as the angelic beauty.

The background score of Keeravani combined with the splendid work of VFX head Srinivas Mohan give goosebumps in various sequences. 

Negatives

The film's major disappointment is the shabby story-telling which fails to engage the viewers. The writing is shoddy and oscillates between various scenes. The characters are provided good scope to perform. 

Bottom-line

Baahubali is a massively entertaining film but it could have achieved much more than that
