Bairavaa - A Pakka Mass Entertainer!
REVIEW
After the success of Theri, Vijay is back with his latest movie Bairavaa. He has teamed up with Bharathan, with whom he had worked in Azhagiya Tamil Magan, which was not a big hit at the box office.
Keerthy Suresh plays the love interest of Ilayathalapathy in the film, which also has Aparna Vinod and Papri Ghosh in the important roles. Popular Telugu actor Jagapathi Babu is the villain in the Tamil movie, which has Sathish, Mime Gopi, Rajendran, Sreeman, Sharath Lohitashwa, Sija Rose, Sugunthan and others in the cast.
M Sukumar has handled the cinematography, while Praveen KL has edited the flick. Santhosh Narayanan has composed the music.
STORY
Bairavaa is an action film, features Vijay in titluar role and his love interest Keerthy Suresh as Malarvizhi. Film revolves around a young man (Vijay) who takes up his girlfriend Malarvizhi ‘s (Keerthi Suresh) fight for justice against an unscrupulous, corrupt man who had created a multi million dollar business by misleading aspiring medical students and their parents. The movie tries to expose how institutions fleece students and how that has affected the entire system.
Jagapathi Babu plays as ‘Jayantha’ who is corrupt politician and lock horns with Vijay at some point of the time in the film.
PERFORMANCE
It’s a complete Vijay Film. It has everything a Vijay film should have. Comedy, action, romance, sentiments, a terrific villain, songs and dance. It has everything. Though he got another chance to direct Vijay, the director did not try anything new. Most of the times a Vijay fan could predict the next scene. But we can forgive him for doing that as he wins the hearts with his hard hitting dialogues. We should even appreciate his guts to take such a lengthy flashback portion without Vijay.
Pre-climax fight happens to be one of the high points of the film. Post mid way mark, the film resorts to an over beaten screenplay pattern. A couple of impressive scenes here and there keep us alert. It falls flat towards the end and does not excite us. The combination of Vijay, Sukumar's camerawork, Anal Arasu's stunts and Santhosh Narayanan's theme result in superb action blocks which are the best things about the film.
Had Bharathan packaged the second half as good as the first half, Bairavaa would have been an engaging commercial entertainer. But as you leave the cinema in the end, you can’t help missing the distinct sense of fun that Vijay films normally deliver.
