Chennai Ungalai Anbudan Varaverkirathu - Good intention but bad execution

Chennai Ungalai Anbudan Varaverkirathu was there in news for right and wrong reasons. One side, directors Bharathiraja, Thiagarajan Kumararaja,  Balaji Tharaneetharan and Vijay Sethupathi spoke really high about the movie and on the other side, Bobby Simha who is playing as one of the lead role in the film has refused to dub for the film and said that the director cheated him. Similarly Chennai Ungalai Anbudan Varaverkirathu director Marudhu Pandian has said that Simha is blackmailing him and asking share in profits or 60 lakhs for dubbing. Actually there is no clear information on who is telling the truth, let’s review the film…

Plot

Simha wants to be a great filmmaker in Tamil cinema and he is staying in Chennai along with his three friends at a rental house in Chennai. At first scene, a sleepy friend of Simha urinates at the house owner’s face and they are forced to move out of the house. Later another friend of Simha brings his girl friend to the room and again Simha forced to look for a new room. Thus, all these disturbance actually prevents Simha from writing his dream script.

All he writes is ‘ Hero comes from this side, heroine comes from this side’ and that’s about it. There are episodes where one of Simha’s friend impregnates a divorced girl and his guilty relationship causes him a baby, there is an unsuccessful assistant director who couldn’t get a bicycle for his nephew.

So does Simha writes his dream script and becomes a director?

Plus

The film’s positive is the director unmasked the darker or ugly side of youngsters who are addicted to smoking, booze and girls.

Also the director depicted how youngsters are cheating innocent girls and how girls are having pre-marital affairs but these scenes could be negatives as well.

Minus

Scenes involving sex talk gone too much that sometimes we feel like watching a soft porn movie only without explicit obscene scenes. Acting by all the actors are not up to the mark except Simha whose character is not having enough importance in the film.

The poor budget and technicalities are other aspects which give one of worst movie watching experience ever.

Bottom Line

Marudhu Pandiyan’s intentions are understandable but the shabby screenplay spoils everything.

Verdict : Good intention but bad execution

Stars : 2/5
