Demonte Colony - Solid horror thriller

Horror movies are the order of the day and needless to say every given month, we are seeing at least one horror movie but the real question are these movies have good writing, technicalities and some honest paper work?—hell no! Some of them are downright silly that the director’s basic idea is to scare the audience with eerie BGM and dark cinematography with minimum lights, of course a computer graphics which is considered to be a trash in western movies.

Director Ajay Gnanamuthu’s Demonte Colony is a sigh of relief from these so called horror movies and this one has some good effort and a promising storyline with superior cinematography and supportive background score.

Plot

Four Friends – Srini (Arulnithi), Sajid,Raghavan and Vimal are bachelors and they are chasing their dream and have no income giving job to do.One fine day, all gets drunk and take a short adventure trip to the haunted Demonte Colony. They experience some minor paranormal activity and the next day, they get to know that all of them are going to be murdered one by one as Raghavan has looted the gold chain from the haunted house. They foresee the future ie., their death in their own TV and now they are scared to death. They also come to know that their friend Sajid is dead and Demonte’s spirit has entered in him. Will they escape from Demonte?

Plus

The film is technically superior; to point out, the vfx work in the 18th century portions of Demonte are impressive. Cinematographer Aravind has induced fear through his visuals and he has used natural lighting in most of the frames which is quite interesting.

Keba Jeremiah’s background score is loud and sometimes give us a headache but at the end of the day those loud BGM gives us the scary feel.

Arulnithi Tamilarasu, MS Baskar, RJ Ramesh are perfectly conveyed their emotions on screen. Even the newcomers who acted as Raghavan and Sajid did a commendable job.

The running time of 116 minutes is another major plus

Minus

The first half of the movie moves at a slow pace, the double meaning comedy in the introduction scene of Arulinithi Tamilarasu could have been avoided.Other than the above said thing there is no big flaw in the movie.

Bottom Line

Demonte Colony is absolutely no-nonsense horror film which gives a satisfaction for viewers who need good entertainment.

Verdict : Solid horror thriller

Stars : 2.5/5
