Eli - Watch it at your own risk
Vadivelu has faced a sabbatical as the comedian canvassed for DMK in the legislative assembly election but to his misfortune ADMK has won the elections.
After nearly three years, the actor made his comeback as a hero in Tenaliraman which was an average venture now with the same director, the actor has made yet another film Eli where he plays an undercover cop or spy or rat. Well, here is our review. Read on…
Plot
Elisamy(Vadivelu) fails the fitness test to become a cop and he eventually ends up a thief and his intelligent enough to loot all the things even in a retired IG’s house. Impressed by Eli’s works, the commissioner of the city appoints him as a spy in cigarette smuggling gang run by Pradeepa Rawat. Yes, you read it right, the film set is 60s and during that time period, cigarette is a banned product in our country.
If Eli arrests all the smugglers, he could become a cop but in the process, the gang came to know the real identity of him.So what happens next?....
Plus
Vadivelu’s timing comedy in some of the scenes generates some small laugh while Sadha looks sexy and cute in the retro getup.
The Hindi song Mere Sapno Ki Rani from Aradhana and the club number from Vidyasagar is hummable but otherwise there is no big plus in the movie.
Minus
The story itself a big negative as the director has chosen a serious plot for a comic hero and it’s sad that Vadivelu couldn’t justify the role. But all blame must goes to the director because he has not written the film with enough comedy one liners and all the scenes look boring which hardly induce any interest.
The action sequences are unbelievable and it is very easy for Vadivelu to beat all the goons where the logic fails big time.
Cinematography and editing are the other worries, especially the running time is too long that we can’t sit through.
Bottom Line
Watch Eli at your own risk, this film is poorly executed and hardly sustains our interest
Verdict : Watch it at your own risk
Stars : 2/5
