Idhu Enna Maayam - Slow paced romance

Director Vijay debuted in Tamil cinema with Kireedam and his immediate next movie Madarsipattinam grabbed everyone’s attention.  With Deiva Thirumagal, Vijay earned a good name in the industry but his last two films – Thalaivaa and Thaandavam didn’t meet the expectation and falls short comparing to the standard of Vijay.

Does Idhu Enna Maayam brings back Vijay to his good form? Read on…

Plot

Arun (Vikram Prabhu) and Maya (Keerthi Suresh) goes to the same college but the former is senior and their first meeting itself starts with a big fight and complaint. But later they duo develop a liking for each other and fall in love. Just like any other love stories, here too ego comes as a big obstacle that they parted away.

In present, Arun runs a creative business called UMT through which he helps for the love of youngsters who find difficult to express their feeling and get their desired match. Unfortuanetly a wealthy kind called Santhosh approaches UMT and ask them to get him the nod of Maya. Will Arun agree?

Plus

Vikram Prabhu and Keerthi Suresh’s on screen chemistry and their interaction during the flashback are enjoyable.

The film’s two major strengths are Nirav Shah ‘s cinematography and GV Prakash Kumar’s background score which elevate the film to one step higher.

Minus

The plot of the film is not new and everything is easily predictable. Songs are clearly a major hindrance for the film’s flow that audience makes a walk out for every single number.

The running time of the film is 140 minutes but easily they could trimmed down twenty more minutes so that the film would have been crispier not it appears to be too slow and long.

Normally comedy clicks well in director Vijay’s movies but here it falls flat. May be the director should have roped in a good comedian, RJ Balaji couldn’t save the show.

Bottom Line

The bottom line is Idhu Enna Mayam is another average film from director Vijay and he is yet to make a solid comeback

Verdict : Slow paced romance

Stars : 2/5
