Kaaval - A pathetic attempt
Kaaval was a movie promoted on the sole screen presence of Samuthirakani as a honest police officer. Even the teaser and other promos presented him as the main lead in the film. How has it worked out? The film has to lock horns with three major films at the box office in Indru Netru Naalai, Yagavarayinum Naa Kaaka and Moone Moondru Varthai.
Plot
Vemal and his friends live inside a police quarters. All their respective fathers are cops in the nearby police station and they favor a local rowdy who runs a contract-murders mafia who kill for money across the state. Things go in a disorderly haste when Samuthirakani enters the story as an undercover cop who is set out to encounter the mafia and its head. Samuthirakani also assembles a team of special cops and their assignment to kill the gang forms the story.
Plus
The film's action side is brilliantly executed with life-like portrayal on screen. However, that is the only silver lining as the film falls totally flat is rest of the areas where the director might have scored easily. Samuthirakani's performance as a bravado is a good sight to watch
Minus
The shoddy screenplay with a tedious romance track between Vemal and Punnagai Poo Geetha is a big disappointment and it dampened the happenings forever in the beginning.
The dialogues become too preachy at a point of time and the climax becomes so openly contrives to make the audiences leave with a heavy heart.
Bottom-line
Kaaval is a pathetic attempt to portray real-life events into an investigative cop drama.
Verdict : A pathetic attempt
Stars : 2/5
