Kalkandu - A mediocre show

Family entertainers are always the best method to pitch upon the universal audiences. Over the years, it has been time and tested genre that has clicked well in many centres. In spite of many developments in technical aspects and conceptualisations, certain films still prove to be a winner despites old-fangled family oriented themes in the backdrops. Gajesh, the grandson of veteran late actor Nagesh makes his debut with ‘Kalkandu’ that happens to be a family entertainer directed by M. Nandakumaran. Dimple Chopde plays the female lead character, who had played female lead in Yaaruda Magesh.

Story

The film revolves around a youngster Karthik (Gajesh) living a life of his own ambitious goals. But his parents urge him to take up medical science for his graduation. Unfortunately, when his seat acquired by a girl named Karthika (Dimple), Karthik hatches some plans and manages to make his family believe that he is pursuing the course. As things proceed well, both Karthik and Karthika fall in love, but sooner the protagonist is broken down when she chisels him after course completion and gets back to her village. Unwilling to give up his love, Karthik travels all the way to her village only to get hit by a shock. What’s it actually and will his love prove to be true to him? Watch out for the rest on the screens.

Plus

Nandakumaran has taken up a good theme in hand, which might be little hackneyed, but it is slightly okay for rural audiences who still love this genre of movie.

Minus

The film lacks the proper style of screenplay that fails to keep us all engaged. To be precise, the script badly demands something as of gripping narration, but it doesn’t get you so much absorbed. Also additionally, the performance by actors could have been better. Why humour is missing terribly these days? The filmmakers if they want add humour; let them give the best try. Many films have been saved from sinking merely because of comedy tracks.

Performance

When it comes to performance, one thing can be assured about Gajesh. Maybe, he is not completely to the core of ne plus ultra performance, but has seriously taken up to prove the proficiency of his lineage. Dimple is just okay and could have focussed well on her performance. The hilarious lines by Ganja Karuppu and Swaminathan don’t evoke laughter.

Overall, Kalkandu goes in scare of some enlivening moments, which otherwise would have made this film a better watchable one.
