Kanchana 2 - Partly scary, fully pathetic

Lawrence’s Muni and Kanchana are highly successfully movies in both Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh. The laugh riot comedy portions, hair raising scary sequences and the worthy flashback portions are the key strengths of the those films, of course not to forget Lawrence’s typical scary-boy body language.

Plot

The film opens with a couple haunted by ghosts but we are soon told by the director that it’s a dreamy sequence. Ha… that’s the whole idea behind Kanchana 2 they are trying to fool us by filming some scenes where they have tried too hard to scare us but sadly we are sitting comfortably and wondering what’s happening. Lawrence is working as a cameraman in a channel run by Suhasini’s husband who gets depressed as his TV channel came to second position. So all the team members are discussing about how to increase the TRP, the young program director Taapsee suggest that filming ghost documentary will increase the TRP ratings and Sushasini is impressed by the idea.

Now Taapsee prefers Lawrence as the cinematographer as he is best one in the channel but our hero is afraid of dark and ghosts but as he loves  Taapsee, he says yes.
As they are filming at a beach house and sets up a staged ghost effect, they are witnessing  the real paranormal activities. Taapsee is haunted by Ganga and Lawrence is haunted by Motta Siva, why they became ghosts ? Well, watch in the big screen to know…

Plus

The first half of the film is filled with comedy sequences, some scary moments, a beautiful song with Taapsee and Lawrence,  supporting casts including Sriman and Kovai Sarala  are tickling our funny bones. Lawrence’s  innocent and energetic acting is enjoyable, similarly Taapsee has given her career best in Kanchana 2.

Minus

The second half is a letdown,  the graphic works are silly and the flashback is nothing less than a cliché as Raghava Lawrence once again tried to film a poor girl’s life and tells us how her dreams are destroyed and how she turns out to be a ghost to revenge against her enemies. Stereotypical is the word, Lawrence!

Bottom Line

Kanchana 2 is not as good as Kanchana or Muni, only for die hard Lawrence’s fans!

Verdict : Partly scary, fully pathetic

Stars : 2/5
