Kangaroo - Watchable brother – sister sentiment saga
The controversial director Samy who is known for making films dealing with AIDS, illegal affairs is back with Kangaroo, a film which majorly deals about the relationship between a brother and sister, the over possessiveness and much more…
Plot
Murugesan(Arjuna) runs a tea shop at one of the villages near Kodaikanal, he is like the Smeagol of The Lord Of The Rings, for him his sister is the ‘most precious’ thing in the world. Murugesan could bash anybody but he is bound to his sister’s words such is his love towards her.
As they grow young, Murugesan’s sister Azhagu (Sri Priyanga) fall in love and Muruesan happily say yes to their wedding but the bridegroom dies as he fall into a valley. Another bridegroom dies through a current shock but finally she got married so that his brother will be relieved and marries her close friend Chellam (Varsha Ashwathi).
Strangely, there is an attempt to murder Azhagu’s husband and when the cop (Samy) investigates, he finds that Murugesan has killed both the bridegrooms. The remaining film unties all the twists and turns around Murugesan’s character and mental behavior in the film.
Plus
The film’s main positive is Murugesan’s characterization which is very raw and his real flashback story which is shown towards the climax of the film but the acting of Arjuna who played as Murugesan is just okay.Thambi Ramaiah who acted as the Nadar who supports both Murugesan and Azhagu evokes some good laughter but Kanja Karuppu, the other comedian tries too hard to be funny.Songs by Srinivas are soothing to ears and he has done a good job with the background score too. Cinematography and editing of the film are also equally good as the visuals and running time are perfect for the movie.
Minus
The sister characterization and casting is a poor choice, a better actor and writing would have made it a better watch. The unwanted characters like Kalabahavan Mani and the call girl only helped for the running otherwise they are downright silly. The first half of the movie is moving at a leisurely pace and the director didn’t tighten the script like he did in the second half.
Bottom Line
Kangaroo is a watchable movie only for its second half , also some good flashback justification towards the climax!
Verdict : Watchable brother – sister sentiment saga
Stars : 2.5/5
