Kathai Thiraikathai Vasanam Iyakkam - New thought, but less impact
Parthiban is always known for dropping the best ideas on his script papers and delivered unparalleled ideas. It has been quite evident from his directorial list of movies. After a long hiatus, he makes a comeback with the film Kathai Thiraikathai Vasanam Iyakkam.
Story
The film stars newcomers Santhosh Prathap as Thamizh and Akhila Kishore as his wife Daksha. Thamizh has been trying his best to make his filmmaking debut. He and his team are vigorously working on the script, but they aren’t getting actually getting the right one. Finally, a script is born and everything falls right in places. But what happens next is narrated in a different way.
Performance
The film has complete newcomers in lead roles. Santosh looks handsome and his performance is casual. Akhila looks beautiful with less make up and even her performance is splendid. Thambi Ramaiah scores brownie points with his mind-boggling show. The scene where he bursts into emotions talks about his deplorable life in cinema deserves claps.
Technical
Cinematography is perfect. Editing spoils the mood of film in few places. The songs appear in suddenness and there is nothing so much coherent between the songs and screenplay.
Plus
The story looks simple and in many places seems like a documentary of Parthiban capturing the audiences’ statement on movies. The first half is completely done with no drama and to add some interest, Parthiban makes a cameo in between the scenes and tries to keep a hold on us. He breaks a couple of shocking moments to happen in second hour so that audience would be kept intact. That’s a good idea and Parthiban deserves special mention for this. The narrative style of Parthiban is appreciable.
Minus
Very few can actually understand what Parthiban is trying to convey in this film, especially the ones from film industry alone can get the actual meaning of what is happening there. The first half has some light moments. Although, there are some interesting elements, they appear in scarcity. It is nice to see the realistic factors in film industry, but after a certain extent, the dullness starts prevailing. We will have to wait till second half and even post-intermission it takes a very long time to get settled with the story.
Verdict : New thought, but less impact
Stars : 2.5/5
