Maari - Predictable commercial film

After strings of failures, Dhanush scored back to back hits with VIP and Anegan. Now the actor is back with ‘Thara local’ (as the makers claim) Maari which has just hit the screens. Does the actor scores a hat-trick with Maari? Read on to know…

Plot

Maari (Dhanush) is a local rowdy and also an ardent pigeon racer. People in Maari’s locality don’t like him for his ruthless nature and everyone believes that he actually murdered someone. Mean time, a sub inspector named Arjun (Vijay Yesudas) wants to know the mystery behind the eight year old murder.

Arjun uses Sridevi (Kajal) who goes through the torture of Maari and thus makes him fall in love and finds the enough evidence.

Now the real color of Arjun has been revealed, he actually joins hands with other local rowdies and occupies the whole locality.

Who wins in this cat and mouse game? Help yourself by watching the film on silver screen.

Plus

The film’s major plus is Dhanush and his powerful screen presence. His stylish look with the beard and handlebar mustache along with coolers is a treat to watch. The actor’s dialogue delivery and massy walk are sure to get thundering reception.

Robo Shankar who comes as Dhanush’s side-kick scores big time with his timing comedy and unique mannerisms.

Music by Anirudh is another huge plus for the movie. Despite average songs, Anirudh compensates with stunning background score.

Minus

The screenplay is downright slow and highly predictable. Even a five year old kid could probably tell the next scene which is going to pop up on the big screen. The villains are too loud and weak, so the cat and mouse game is actually turns out to be a big bore and hardly evokes any interest.

The storyline is also very thin so there is nothing unique or extra-ordinary to laud the director, expect for the fact that he portrayed his hero in the most powerful way as possible.

Bottom Line

Overall, Maari is catered only for Dhanush’s fans while for others it’s just another mass commercial entertainer that glorifies the hero.

Verdict : Predictable commercial film

Stars : 2/5
