Manjapai - Not a granny story… its grandpa all the way!
Storyline:
Vemal is a software engineer on the verge of leaving to the US. Before going abroad, he invites his grandfather Raj Kiran to stay with him in Chennai. With his parents passing away when he was a kid, Vemal and Raj Kiran are very attached. However, Raj Kiran, being a hardcore villager, is not accustomed to the ways of the city life. Due to this, he earns the wrath of the people in the apartment as well as Vemal’s girlfriend Lakshmi Menon. At one point of time, Vemal’s US Visa is also cancelled. Following this, he starts to hate his grandfather too. Deeply saddened by the happenings, Raj Kiran goes absconding. Whether Raj Kiran’s affection is understood… did he get back to his grandson… all this forms the story of Manja Pai.
Best:
The first half is very interesting and humorous with Raj Kiran coming in to live with Vemal and the antics he does.
Acting:
Raj Kiran dominates the entire show with his acting. Lakshmi Menon is ok.
Technicalities:
Aagaya Nilavu and Sattendru Thooralum in Raghunanthan’s music are melodious. Other than this, there is nothing to mention.
Negatives:
What happened to Vemal? There is no tension when his US Visa is cancelled and no happiness when it is revoked. Even in romance scenes, he does not score well. Why this indifference to his role?
Though the film slides down in many places, Raj Kiran’s acting comes as a bolster holding it up!
Verdict : Not a granny story… its grandpa all the way!
Stars : 3/5
