Megha - Average grosser with less thriller
Story
Helmed by debut filmmaker Karthik Rishi, the story of Megha starts inside a hospital at early hours with an injured hero getting admitted. From here, the film narrates past and present events that take place within the hospital.
Performance
The entire story hands on the heroine Srushti and it is surprising that there is little life to her character. Ashwin is smart looking and looks earnest; however, it looks like he did have struggle with emotional sequences.
Another advantage is the characterizations of other supporting actors. Sasikumar plays Mani and comes and goes abruptly without giving us clarity about his character. Other supporting actors like Naren, Jayaprakash, Y Gee Mahendran, Meera Krishnan, Vijaykumar and Ravi Prakash does therir job well bringing out their years of experience. However, the character of Y Gee Mahendran is uncertain and ambiguous. Angana Roy comes as Thulasi and it is refreshing. However, she maintains the same emotions throughout her scenes.
Plus
The director names his actors poetically after clouds – Meghavathy and Mugilan and the rains also takes an essential position in the film with every important scenes and cinematographer Gurudev effortlessly captures the beauty of rain that turns out to be a major highlight. Another advantage of the film is Raja sir’s music composition that has strengthened the film further.
Nevertheless, it is evident that the director has so much banked on these two positive pillars. The film weakly travels between thriller and romance, and the both the genres are not told well. Hero, who comes as an expert in Forensic Science Department is indeed new to Tamil films and quite interesting. However, this has not put much to use in the story.
Minus
What makes the film much weaker is the romance part. Love at first is all right, however the excess cheesy dialogues between the leads and the implausibleness does not help us connect with the story.
The film does have a couple of cherry moments like Ashwin proposes to Srushti and the interaction with his photographer friend. Unfortunately, these sequences are short and do not last for long.
Verdict : Average grosser with less thriller
Stars : 2/5
