Nannbenda - A disappointing outing
After delivering one good hit in Oru Kal Oru Kannadi and a passable entertaining romance drama in Oru Kathirvelan Kadhal, Udhayanidhi has tried his hands with another rom-com in Nannbenda directed by Jagadesh, one of Rajesh's former associates. How has Udhay fared in his third film? Has Jagadesh been able to leave footprints of his own?
Plot
Sathya (Udhayanidhi) is a happy-go-lucky youngster who visits his childhood friend Sivakozhundhu (Santhanam) who resides in Trichy every month. One fine day, he meets Sathya meets Ramya (Nayanthara) and falls in love at first sight. Then, he decided to stalk her after knowing that she is put up in a ladies hostel that's located right opposite to Sivakozhudhu's bachelor room.
After continues stalking efforts from Sathya, Ramya starts to reciprocate gradually. But, there is a secret that makes Ramya a little apprehensive to express his love for Sathya freely. When she decides to reveal it to Sathya, a bizarre misunderstanding occurs between the duo and puts their relationship in jeopardy.
Plus
Nayanthara's performance and her lovely beauty is only consoling factor in this terribly written romance comedy. Whenever she appears on screen, she commands a beautiful screen presence and makes it absolutely difficult to take your eyes off her. And, Santhanam's one-liners on others' bodily assets come to the fore as usual, but works only here and there.
Minus
Jagadesh has put together a fusion of a film which is totally reminiscent of his mentor's hit films. Udhayanidhi is still struggling with his monotonous expressions. Harris Jayaraj's songs still give you a grave sense of dejavu.
Bottomline
Nannbenda is a badly written and staged comedy film that is mostly underwhelming and very scarcely passable.
Verdict : A disappointing outing
Stars : 2/5
