Nayagi - Watch it at your own risk..!
REVIEW
Trisha Krishnan's much-delayed Nayagi is a horror-comedy movie, which has been written and directed by Goverdhan Reddy aka Govi. The bilingual movie has been jointly bankrolled by Giridhar Mamidipally and Padmaja Mamidipally. While the Tollywood version of the film was released in July, the Tamil version is seeing the light of the day in theatres now.
Nayagi stars Trisha and Ganesh Venkatraman in the lead roles, and Satyam Rajesh, Sushma Raj, Jayaprakash, Manobala, Kovai Sarala, Brahmanandam and others as supporting cast. The film features cinematography by Jagadeesh Cheekati and editing by Gautham Raju. Raghu Kunche has composed the songs, while Sai Karthik has scored the background music for the film.
STORY
Sanjay (Satyam Rajesh), a wannabe filmmaker sketches a plan to trap his innocent girlfriend Sandhya (Sushma Raj) at a farm house. But Sanjay’s heated argument with an elderly man(Jayaprakash) lead him to a haunted house in the restricted area, where ghost Gayathri (Trisha) punishes perverted men, who cheat women and destroy their lives! What happened to Gayathri? How did she die? The director justifies all these unanswered questions with the so-called over-the-top flashback sequences!
PERFORMANCE
Trisha has given a decent performance, but her screen presence doesn't work in the favour of the film's engagement. She tries her best to save the film, but unable to. Though Satyam Rajesh evokes occasional laughter and Sushma looks beautiful, they too cannot save the sinking ship. For a change, Ganesh Venkataraman plays a villain while Sendrayan pathetically attempts to spill some jokes but nothing works in the film's favour!
Jayaprakash and Ganesh Venkatraman have delivered well, but one might feel bad about a performer like Jayaprakash being wasted. Veteran actor Brahmanandam comes in the climax and his presence doesn't add any value to the film.
Jagadeesh's camera work gives a retro feel to the movie. The dialogues were weak and ineffective, and even when the actors tried to deliver them the best they could, the lines still fell flat. Music isn't anything that will stay with you. However, the background music in parts reminds you unmistakably of the Harry Potter theme music. hile the comedy scenes were cringeworthy enough, the horror parts themselves just make you want to leave.
