Oozham - A One Time Watch!
REVIEW
Oozham is the latest 2016 Indian Malayalam revenge drama film written and directed by Jeethu Joseph and produced by The film stars Prithviraj Sukumaran, Divya Pillai and debutant Rasna Pavithran in the lead roles. Music for the film is composed by Anil Johnson. Shamdat Sainudheen handled the cinematography.
Oozham is the reunion project of director Jeethu Joseph and actor Prithviraj Sukumaran after their critically acclaimed thriller Memories.
STORY
Jeethu Josephs Oozham is a revenge family drama with the right amount of action in it. Krishnamoorthy (Balachandra Menon) and family are a happy lot, but he constantly questions the corrupt doings of a business tycoon (Jayaprakash). Expectedly, a bunch of goons enter their house one day, and kills Krishnamoorthy, his wife and their daughter before the eyes of their son Soorya (Prithviraj) who was on a video call with his sister from the US. On realising that the tycoon is the mastermind behind his family's killings, Soorya decides to take revenge, with the help of an adopted sibling Ajmal (Neeraj Madhav) and a family friend Gayathri (Divya Pillai) whose brother was also killed by the tycoon.
PERFORMANCE
Prithviraj has played the character of Suriya with ease, as he has essayed similar roles before. From a cheerful loving son and brother to a killer, the actor has delivered a convincing performance in Oozham. Neeraj, who often plays comedy characters, has also moved out of his comfort zone to portray an IT expert in the film. He has performed well without getting overshadowed by Prithviraj's character.
Debutant Rasna is charming, and Divya, who made her acting debut in Fahadh Faasil's Ayaal Njanalla, plays a prominent role in Oozham, proving she is more than just a good looking actress.
Jayaprakash as the villain Alfred Marquez, who is the head of a pharma company, and Pasupathy as the bomb-defusing expert Captain have also delivered powerful performances in Oozham. Balachandra Menon, Seetha, Kishore Sathya and other supporting cast have done justice to their roles.
Shamdat Sainudheen's cinematography gets full marks for engaging the audience and Ayoob Khan's crisp editing is also impressive. Anil Johnson’s songs were not quiet impressive whereas his background score has become one of the prime plus for the movie. The narrative that has interlinked past and present scenes, and how the transitions are shown by the makers need special mention.
