Oru Oorula Rendu Raja - Not appealing and doesn't impress
What if my film fails to perform well due to Adult comedy stuffs, let me make a film based on good message wrapped up with lots of decorous entertainment factors .This will surely eclipse my previous work 'Settai' and work the best among family audiences as my 'Jayam Kondan' had performed. It looks like this should have been the motto of director Kannan whose previous film 'Settai' had flunked terribly with some bad criticisms. His latest release 'Oru Oorla Rendu Raja' starring Vemal, Priya Anand and Soori in lead roles.
The film revolves around two devil-may-care kind of guys Azhagu (Vemal) and Michael (Soori) who have no purpose in their lives. But when they come across a beautiful girl Priya (Priya Anand) during a train journey, the former falls for her, but sooner their lives have an unexpected turn landing them on unanticipated grounds.
Performances
Priya Anand tries to woo the audiences with her oomph factor in songs and does her part well as a professional doctor as well. Vemal has improvised a lot in his looks compared to his previous movies and his role is quite appreciable. Vishaka Singh does her part well. Nasser stands out well with his characterisation.
Plus
The film holds a good concept when heard as a plot with some nice message. Vemal's changeover looks are surprising and appreciable. Soori works out some humour. Thambi Ramaiah is just okay. Musical score by D Imman is good and picturing by P.G. Muthaiah is worthy of appreciations. The first half has some interesting moments that doesn't keep you away from screens.
Minus
Director Kannan perplexes us throughout the film. He has a good message to save the humankind (don't get it compared with Christopher Nolan's Interstellar), but something good on note, but it doesn't get perfect merely due to poor writing. Unwanted humour quotients, which may tickle your funny bones, but doesn't get meaningful and songs that are nowhere close to the script. The second half gets little sluggish and Kannan to make the film more commercial winds up with heroine reciprocating to wayward hero for no reason.
On the whole, Oru Oorla Rendu Raja as mentioned earlier has some interesting plot and message, but the way it is narrated becomes a huge spoiler.
Verdict : Not appealing and doesn't impress
Stars : 2/5
