Papanasam - Must Watch
Kamal Haasan’s last film Uttama Villain was a colossal flop so he has to give a big hit with Papanasam to capitalize his star status and market in Kollywood. Good thing about Papanasam is that it is a remake of blockbuster Malayalam film Drishyam so success is quite obvious!
Plot
Suyambulingam(Kamal Haasan) is a self grown man, he never seeks any help from others and sometimes people call him stingy but he rightfully spends his penny for his small yet loveable family which includes his wife Rani (played by Gautami) and two daughters, Selvi(Niveda) and Meena (Esther).
When Selvi goes for a trip with her school friends, she was shot in an sleazy angle by Varun who is the son of Inspector General of Police Geetha Prabahar(Asha Sarath).
Now Varun blackmails Selvi and asks her oblige his lustful demand. In the process, both Selvi and Rani murder Varun and hide his body. Now how Kamal saves his family with his filmy knowledge from the deadly cops tells us the rest of the story.
Plus
Kamal Haasan’s performance is phenomenal, his nellai dialect and emotions are spectacular to watch on big screen. Gautami as an innocent yet caring mother has done her role with amazing perfection and the two daughters have also scored really high.
Asha Sarath as the IG speaks through her eyes, the way she breaks down in the climax proves her acting caliber.
Kalabavan Mani as the corrupt, envious cop has excelled in the pre-climax portions and the rest of the actors have also done their part well.
Ghibran’s two songs gel well with the movie and his background score is another hero of the film.
Minus
Audiences who have seen the original might feel the predictability of Papanasam and they might not have more interest but still Kamal’s screen presence is more than enough to make them sit through, laugh and cry .
Bottom Line
Papanasam is easily one of the best remakes from Malayalam cinema and it is a must watch
Verdict : Must Watch
Stars : 2.5/5
