Poriyaalan - A great story that is affected by a weak technical crew
Director Thanukumar comes up with a film set in the backdrops of civil engineering, which might not be closely similar to Dhanush’s Velai Illa Pattathari, but takes a different route with some best thrill and racy moments. The film is jointly produced by Ace Mass Medias and Vetrimaaran’s Grassroot Film Company. The story, dialogues and screenplay is penned by Manimaran, who rose to fame with Udhayam NH4.
Story
Poriyaalan is a story about an ambitious and dedicated civil engineer who drops his regular job and hopes to commence his own construction firm. However, he eventually falls for a greedy goon a land scam.
Performance
Though a subtle performance has been delivered by the lead characters – Harish Kalyan and Anandhi, an intro song for a new comer could have been avoided. As veteran actor Mohan Raman has done a standout job as Shastri, the other supporting characters have also done a god job keeping the much engaging.
Plus
Despite of the lip sync, the story is quite engaging in the second hour. Nevertheless, a couple of romance sequences like the stereotypical heroine runs behind the hero could have been avoided as this slows the pace of the film. But when an audience comes to theatre for watching a time-pass movie, this has some elements that keeps them engaged from beginning till end.
Minus
Some of the other drawbacks of the film are the music and production quality. Similarly, the visuals could have been better in a couple of sequences. A few outdoor and guerilla shots looks as if they were been filmed using a handy-cam.
To cap it all, Poriyaalan is indeed a gripping story and the crisp and commendable performance of Mohan Raman makes it a standout.
Verdict : A great story that is affected by a weak technical crew
Stars : 2/5
