Pulan Visaranai 2 - Puli Visaranai 2 is a botched-up sequel to the super yesteryear hit film

RK Selvamani’s Pulan Visaranai featuring Sarath Kumar, Vijayakanth and Anandraj was a smash hit in the 90s. Now, the remake which was supposed to release almost nine years back has released now. Selvamani teams up with Prashanth for the unassuming sequel after their yesteryear hit Chembaruthi. How has the whodunit come out this time around?

Plot

A mysterious Anandraj continues his role as a serial killer who is on a rampage but under control this time under the guidance and leadership of RK of Avan Ivan fame who plays the sophisticated villain in the film. The story is about the exploits of petroleum industry and how government makes people as scapegoat to keep their tills ringing by subduing to the lucrative private sector oil companies. A group of engineers who are working in IPNC owned by Pyramid Natarajan finds a pathbreaking research which would offer some magic solace to the depriving petrol assets of the nation. But Pyramid Natarajan teams up with oil baron RK to hinder the research which would prove detrimental to their company. So, they send their engineers to a trip to Kulu Manali and murder them in the eyes of accident. Prashanth, who plays an honest and outright assistant commissioner of police, has been appointed to investigate the proceedings. How Prashanth unmasks the villains forms the rest of the story.

Performances

Prashanth has delivered a neat performance as a police officer. His command, body language and gesture signal the menacing power he holds in the role. Karthika, the heroine, hardly has any screen space in the film which is overshadowed by Prashanth. Veteran actors Pyramid Natarajan, Nizhalgal Ravi, Anand Raj, Mansoor Ali Khan and RK have done justice to their roles.

Plus

The interesting turn of events in the whodunit is the only consoling factor in this police investigating storyline which has only meager excitements to offer. The locations up north have been captured in an intriguing manner. Otherwise, there’s nothing much so affirmative in the film to boast about.

Minus

The technical work is absolutely patchy and annoying. The dubbing parts are horrible and the background score work is atrocious to say the least. The film never manages to engage the viewers in the first place and stumbles from endless logical loopholes. The editing is awful with infinite continuity errors and the DI color grading is annoying to the eyes with random colors churned out on screen with inferior quality.

Verdict

Puli Visaranai 2 is a botched-up sequel to the super yesteryear hit film of the same name.
