Jayam Ravi is back on screen after a long time. Hansika, who has been featured in not-so-important roles of later, has bagged a meaty role to perform. The film also marks the comeback of Poonam Bajwa after a long time. Director Lakshman is making his debut in a tried and tested yet a vulnerable genre, romantic-comedy. Will they all succeed with this film which is riding on the success of Imman's Dandanakka song?

Plot

Aishwarya (Hansika) who is a air-hostess falls in love with Karthik (Jayam Ravi)after making mistaking him to be a CEO of a big company and a wealthy businessman. Her dreams get shattered when she comes of age of the fact that he is a gym coach. Then follows the break up followed by a tit for tat second half.

Will Aishu realize Karthik's real love for her in the end? This is what Romeo Juliet tries to convey in a youthful template which is executed with substandard narrative methods written by debutant Lakshman.

Hansika's performance with a variety of emotions is a big positive to the film which otherwise lacks vitality and energy from its tediously boring screenplay.

Jayam Ravi scores in the second half with his hilarious comic lines and Hansika rules the first half with her attitude and gracefully glamorous costumes.

Imman's songs are brilliant and the re-recording is top notch. The film is a good change over for the composer whose forte is considered to be rural based films.

The story is stereotyped and full of formulaic scene twists which are highly predictable. Hansika fails to connect with the audiences in emotional scenes in the second half. Jayam Ravi goes overboard with his acting occasionally.

The film runs close to two hours and thirty minutes. It really needs a trimming by at least 20 to 30 minutes at best. 

Bottom-line

Romeo Juliet is a done and dusted romantic comedy that is quite formulaic. The humor in the film is the only saving grace. 

Verdict : An underwhelming debut by Lakshman
