Sakalakala Vallavan - Old formula with an outdated derivation
Jayam Ravi's Sakalakala Vallavan is the latest commercial pot boiler. After delivering a mawkish Alex Pandian with Karthi, director Suraaj is back to what he does best - providing commercial entertainers with an all-star cast. This time, he has pulled an interesting casting with Trisha Krishnan and Anjali as the female leads. And, there are a hordes of comedians too including Soori and Vivek.
Plot
Without revealing too much about the film, the plot is basically the rivalry between Jayam Ravi and Soori who always fight for petty issues.
Trisha, after deciding to get divorce from Jayam Ravi, comes to the village. Then, the election battle starts between Anjali, who stand on behalf of Soori's family and Trisha who stands on behalf of Jayam Ravi's family.
Who Jayam Ravi joins hand in the end, Trisha or Anjali, who he's fallen in love with? This forms the story.
Plus
The real strength of all Suraaj films are the comedy tracks. The way Vadivel in Marudhamalai and Vivek in Padikaathavan managed to win the hearts of audiences is missing in Soori's effervescent but blunt jokes that are full of double meanings.
The story thrives in the glamour of Anjali and the cuteness of Trisha.
The chemistry between Jayam Ravi and Trisha has worked out well.
Minus
Suraaj's formula to deliver commercially entertaining films is outdated and it's high time realized it before delivering a string of flops in succession.
The comedies hardly put a smile on your face. While the first half is mildly good when compared to the second half, the latter part becomes a pain in the neck to sit through.
The music composed by Thaman is not pleasing to the ears and ends up jarring throughout.
Bottom-line
Sakalakala Vallavan is an outdated mode of commercial entertainer which is even difficult to work in the midst of C center audiences.
The formula has gone haywire this time.
Verdict : Old formula with an outdated derivation
Stars : 2/5
