Selvandhan - Routine commercial potboiler
Mahesh Babu is a leading star in Telugu cinema but the actor didn’t have a big market in Tami cinema and his dubbed films rarely becomes a hit. Now the actor is trying his luck by releasing Srimanthudu aka Selvandhan in Tamil, does he succeed? Read on to know…
Plot
Jagapathi Babu is a rich industrialist but his biggest worry is that his son Mahesh Babu is not showing any interest in the family business and acts weird.
Later Jagapathi Babu understands that Mahesh not interested in money but in helping others. When Mahesh meets the beautiful Shruti Haasan, she tells him about the course on rural development which changes his whole life.
Shruti also tells Mahesh about how his father left his own village and not even helping his own people. Later Mahesh visits his native village and get know that his father actually fought for the betterment of village people but forced to move out of the native because of the pressure mounted by two politicians and also for the fact the his own people disown him.
Now Mahesh Babu changes the village with his money and also eradicating the two deadly villains, Sampath and Mukesh Rishi.
Plus
Mahesh Babu’s effortless acting is the huge advantage of Srimanthudu. Be it emotional or action block, Mahesh’s acting adds more strength to even an ordinarily written sequence.
Shruti Haasan’s performance inthe film is too good, that her attractive expressions and endearing look have definitely helped for the movie’s flow.
Devi Sri Prasad’s hit numbers and Tamil cinematographer Madhi’s visuals are also the other positives of the film.
Minus
Just like any other Telugu cinema, Selvandhan too has gravity defying stunts, loud punch dialogues and a clichéd flashback which might not be enjoyed by the Tamil audiences who are looking for something fresh and unique.
The story is also not great and villains are very weak that our hero could actually win them every time.
Bottom Line
If you are a fan of Telugu commercial films, you might like Selvandhan otherwise it might not be your cup of tea!
Verdict : Routine commercial potboiler
Stars : 2.5/5
