Sigaram Thodu - A mediocre film

ATM scamsters and robberies are something we have seen only in newspapers, but not many movies have been based on such theme. Director Gaurav comes up with an unique theme in ‘Sigaram Thodu’.

Story

Sathyaraj is a retired police officer who lost his job due to his physically challenged nature during a revolt that broke up in his service with goons. He wants his son Vikram Prabhu to achieve such a standardised position. In contrast, Vikram Prabhu is keen on seeking a bank promotion so that he can lead a peaceful life with his father. During this juncture, several ATM scamsters and robberies take place in the city ruining the lives of many innocent peoples. Will Vikram Prabhu fulfil his father’s dreams and get down to the situation for sorting it out forms crux of the story.

Performance

Vikram Prabhu looks perfect to the role and suits the role of a police officer. Sathyaraj is the show stealer with his tremendous performance and he exhibits one of the best lollapaloozas of his career. Monal Gajjar looks pretty, but her role is limited only to what other heroines find in commercial cinema. Gaurav playing the baddie as a ATM scamster is okay. KS Ravikumar in cameo is excellent. Sathish of Ethir Neechal fame is good with his witty lines.

Plus

As mentioned earlier, it’s the most intriguing theme of ATM scamsters that becomes a major strength. The scenes on how the cash is deposited into the ATM machines by the bank security personnel are shown for the first time. Few scenes in the film are crafted with thrill moments. The emotions involving around father-son are good.

Minus

Vikram Prabhu is apt for the role of a cop, but it’s quite hard to see him shaking legs as other commercial heroes. It doesn’t suit him much. The length of this film hampers the momentum. The film should have been limited to just couple of hours, which would have made it more engrossing. The first half has nothing connected to the basic plot of this film and is wasted on the namesake fun and romance portions. D Imman fails to deliver the best music as in his previous combination with Vikram Prabhu in ‘Kumki’.

Overall, Sigaram Thodu settles into the ‘Average’ box for its middling treatment of script and some nuance performances by the actors.

Verdict : A mediocre film

Stars : 2/5
