The Angry Birds - A must watch for Kids and Angry Bird Game lovers!

REVIEW

Angry Birds is an American 3D CGI-animated action-adventure comedy movie adaptation on the Angry Birds series of video games. The film will be presented by Columbia Pictures and Rovio Animation, in association with Village Roadshow Pictures (Uncredited) and LStar Capital, CGI-animated at Sony Pictures Imageworks, Vancouver, BC, and financed by Rovio Entertainment. In Finland (Where Angry Birds originally created), it was distributed by Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures.

STORY

'Red' is a grumpy, rude loner. Having no one to call his own, Red vents his anger on fellow flightless birds and goes around dissing the world. But he is not a rebel without a cause. Tired of his arrogance and asocial behavior, the village head penalizes him to take anger management sessions, but to no avail.

The sudden arrival of a ship manned by pigs shakes up the serenity of Bird Island. Not only is Red’s house on the beach destroyed by the ship, but he is also instantly suspicious of the pigs’ motives. The pigs distract the birds with parties and gifts as they keep their eyes firmly on the bounty – eggs!

Red’s suspicions turn out to be correct and his anger help the birds fight back against the pigs to rescue their un-hatched children. Red seeks help from Chuck, Bomb and Terrence as well as his idol, the mythical Mighty Eagle.

PERFORMANCE

Red snaps at anything that moves and believes that indulging in small talk is a 'waste of his time'. You instantly fall in love with this flawed, yet sensitive character as you tend to identify with his rebellious streak.

The Angry Birds Movie is childish and occasional cute and capitalises on the game’s once addictive popularity. Directed by Clay Katis and Fergal Reilly, the script is not witty enough, depending on obvious bird and pig puns.

Just when the animation movies are no longer restricted to kids, this film based on a popular mobile app game may not appeal to all age groups. The birds are cute, but an unambitious storytelling sans twists and turns, makes this bird-watching unexciting if not tedious. The screenplay lacks depth and so does the conflict between characters.

Visually, the computer generated animated images are marvelous. The birds and pigs are perfectly anthropomorphized. The animators have painstakingly ensured that each character is well-chiseled. Their facial expressions sync well with emotions. There are plenty of moments that would mesmerize you.
