REVIEW
Theri is one of the most anticipated movie of Kollywood Film Industry this year which stars Ilayathalapathy Vijay, Samantha and Amy Jackson in the lead roles. This is expected as Vijay one of the career best performance. Vijay has teamed up with Raja Rani Fame Atlee Kumar for "Theri," produced by Kalaipuli S Dhanu. Prabhu, Raadhika Sarathkumar, Baby Nainika, Santhanam, Rajendran, Kaali Venkat and others will be seen in supporting roles in "Theri." The film has George C Williams' cinematography and Anthony L Ruben's editing. GV Prakash Kumar has provided a couple of good songs, and "En Jeevan," "Eena Meena Teeka," "Chella Kutti" and "Raangu" have become chartbusters.
"Theri" is an action film that reportedly has a message for society. The film apparently tries to stress on the importance of raising our children well and making them responsible citizens of the country. The Tamil flick is said to be loaded with emotions and action sequences to satisfy all sorts of viewers.
STORY
Theri is about the story of a powerful honest cop Joseph Kuruvilla (Vijay) who stays with his daughter Naini (Nainika). Joseph is quite honest and is a threat to goons who is sincere to his work and spends time with his lovely daughter remembering his painful past. He gets married to Mithra (Samantha) and due to an unexpected incident, she loses her life after which Joseph promises her to be a responsible father. He hides his identity to take care of his family and an unusual situation changes things completely after which Joseph comes back with a bang. What is the incident and what happens rest forms the story.
PERFORMANCE
Ilayathalapathy Vijay has been shown as Joseph Kuruvilla, Vijay Kumar and Dharmeshwar in the movie and he excelled in all the characters. He has been terrific in the action episodes and emotional when required. Vijay’s performance is the major highlight of the film. Baby Nainika is sure here to do wonders in the coming future. She makes a perfect debut with the film and she has been exceptional throughout. Samantha has been decent with the limited role as Dr Mithra and she has been beautiful in songs. Amy Jackson does a critical role which had scope to perform well. All the other actors like Radhika, Prabhu, Mahendran and Rajendran lived up to the expectations in the assigned roles.
The first half of Theri has been completely expressive and slow in speed. The scenes between Vijay and Nainika have been shot remarkably well and the director took his time to unfold the plot which makes the audience left annoyed. The action episodes during the introduction and the interval have been stunning and they leave a strong impact. The songs have been beautiful and they have been placed well. On the whole the complete first half of Theri has been decent but not beyond the expectations. The second half of the movie surprises the audience with enough twists but the basic plot has not been narrated well.
George C Williams is the actual hero of the film, bringing us bright visuals all the way. Nainika's dialogues are another highlight. Atlee's story is old as the hills, but his new-gen presentation saves the day. GV Prakash did an excellent job, especially in action sequences; his BGM is simply a treat.
