Theriyama Unna Kadhalichiten - Too average. Nothing great to mention

What if Balaji Sakthivel’s ‘Kaadhal’ was narrated in a hilarious way and what if the herculean roughnecks belonging to the family of girl don’t object or kill the lover, but indeed promote their relationship? Theriyama Unna Kadhalichiten is directed by Ramu and is produced by Triple V Records. Vijay Vasanth and Rasna have played the lead roles.

Story

Karthik (Vijay Vasanth) and Gayathri (Rasna) fall in love during their age of adolescence and they decide to get their bonding much stronger. But to a greater surprise, the latter’s uncle, who supposedly in Tamil cinemas would kill or ruin the lovers encourages them and lets them decide their future. He indeed sends them for a 15-day survival test to a lonely place without the support of family members and see how far they are matured enough to handle this relationship. Will they be able to prove their love is true or succumb to the fate forms crux of the story.

Performance

Vijay Vasanth has done a neat job with his performance. But the showstopper is heroine Rasna, who scores brownie points during the second hour of this film. The star-cast is quite familiar, but director Ramu fails to utilize them in the right way and their characterisations could have been better than this.

Plus

The second half drama laced with hilarious moments, especially the performance of Rasna is the greatest highlights. Musical score by Srinath in both songs and background are commendable. So are lyrics that are done with excellence. Director Ramu deserves special mention for making the second half engaging.

Minus

As the title says, ‘Theriyama Unna Kadhalichiten’, we are urged by the hampering second half to say, “Theriyama Indha Padathukku Vandhutten”. Such would be the impact for the complete first half that doesn’t carry any substantiality in the script. In the name of humour, the ridiculous witty liners are tried, but nothing evokes laughter on its share.

Overall, Theriyama Unna Kadhalichiten would have been a better satirical drama, if the script, especially for the first half portions were crafted with more substance. Although the concept is good, the method of conveying with a filmy narration hampers our involvement into it.

Verdict : Too average. Nothing great to mention

Stars : 1.5/5
