Thilagar - Watchable revenge saga
Debut director Perumal Pillai has clubbed all the yesteryear cast based movies of Tamil cinema in his Thilagar which reminds us every single classic which we saw in the past. But is Thilagar is refreshing, is it good to watch? Read on to know…
Plot
Kishore is the powerful, respectable head like figure in Vellore town and his growth doesn’t go well with nearby village head Poo Ram. The clash continues as Poo Ram destroys Kishore’s banana field and Kishore in turn beats up Ram’s sons. The wounded sons sketch a plan to assassinate Kishore and they succeed in it.
Kishore has a younger brother Dhruva(Thilagar) who afraid of everything but after knowing his brother’s murder, he becomes a fearless dude who trains himself in becoming a brave warrior. Dhruva successful murders all the three sons of Ram, now the wounded old man wants to take revenge against Dhruva. He gets support from adolescent grandsons and they successful assassinate Dhruva. Now Kishore’s son is the eye witness to the murder of Dhruva, what happens next ?
Plus
Thilagar’s major plus is the action sequences and star cast. Kishore is as usual brilliant with his realistic acting similarly Poo Ram was brilliant as a cunning ruthless villain. The three adolescent kids were also brilliant in the last few minutes of the film. Music by Kannan takes th film to the different level, Cinematography by Rajesh Yadav is huge plus and editing also comes in handy.
Minus
The portions involving Mrudhulla Baskar was a huge letdown as none of the scene is memorable. The caste based dialogues are repetitive and it might not evoke interest to ordinary movie buff. The film is also filled with strong violence quotient and the second half is also too long.
Bottom Line
Thilagar is a watchable movie only for the action sequences and the fine performance of the lead star cast
Verdict : Watchable revenge saga
Stars : 2/5
