Thottal Thodarum - a unique story
Thottal Thodarum marks the debut of popular blogger cum film critic Cable Shankar. How has his debut fared in K'town?
Plot:
The premise is about how two strangers (Thaman and Arundhathi) who, after repeated frivolous phone calls, get into a romantic relationship. Arundhati unfortunately gets into a trouble and gets chased by a intimidating gang who earn bread and butter by orchestrating accidents. How Thaman, who falls head over heels with Arundhati later, forms the story.
Performance
Both Arundhati and Thaman have come out with flying colors with their performances as newcomers. Arundhati expressions are good and she emotes well. More importantly, the duo get their lip sync perfectly and don't look artificial on screen, thankfully.
Technicalities
Vijay Armstrong's cinematography and PC Shivan's music have provided good support to the film though the technicalities have not worked in tandem to the screenplay. Music, at times, is jarring and the cinematography is uninteresting with conventional shots cranked time and again.
Bottom Line
Cable Shankar has made a tepid onscreen debut with Thottal Thodarum. Though he had a strong premise and a unique story in hand, he falters in the execution part, which is quite important.
Verdict : a unique story
Stars : 2/5
