Vai Raja Vai - A lukewarm attempt from Aishwarya Dhanush

As the name goes is plotted on betting. Director Vasanth has made his acting debut as Gautham's father and Gayathri Raguram plays Gautham's sister. With a brilliant star cast - Vivek, Taapsee Pannu, Daniel Balaji , M.S.Bhaskar and Sathish, has the film managed to meet the expectations set?

Plot

The first half was neatly portrayed  with Gautham Karthik's childhood, his Extra Sensory Perception power, Sathish and Vivek's timely wits. Gautham promises his father Vasanth that he never uses his Extra Sensory Perception in future. Despite the promise Gautham uses his ESP to help Vivek - his friend, who has gone way too much into cricket betting. Vivek to feed his greed borrows money from Daniel Balaji  works for Kokki Kumar to invest in betting and gets in trouble.

Gautham helps Vivek in betting with his ESP  and to everyone's surprise Vivek wins in each bet and makes money. And now Gautham is trapped and has been forced to use his ESP that puts him and his family in trouble. How he escapes from the trap forms the second half. 'Kokki Kumar' - cameo by Dhanush is reprising and wins applauds in the climax.

Plus

Yuvan's has come back with a bang, while the audio has already garnered enough positive reviews the Back ground score was really rocking and successful. The performances are really neat and the situational comedy by Sathish and Vivek are a plus in the first half.

Minus

Though the first half really took off well with ingredients like a flashback, situational comedies, decent screenplay the second half was highly disappointing  with a lagging screenplay. The screenplay and the comedy tracks did not work well in the second half.

The screenplay and the sound cast could have been used more wisely that would have made Vai Raja Vai a real thriller.

Bottom Line

Aishwarya Dhanush has failed miserably in executing the second half which is the big factor in deciding the film's prospects. Vai Raja Vai is a half-hearted attempt both in direction and writing.

Verdict : A lukewarm attempt from Aishwarya Dhanush

Stars : 2/5
