Vandha Mala - A poorly narrated comedy drama

After making a capable debut in Arya's Kalaabha Kadhalan, director Igor has taken a long time to complete his second feature Vandha Mala, which deals about four youngsters.

Plot

The film traces the life of four youngsters, played by Hitler, Prasath, Sri Priyanka, Tamizh and Udhayaraj who reside in a slum area in Chetpet, Chennai. Their admirable bonding with each other is something the director has tried to project well on screen. When dismissed by their hotel owner, the four of them decide start a new venture on their own, a hotel business. Since they are running short of funds, they take up chain snatching as a part time activity to fund for their business. However, things take an unexpected turn when they try to snatch the chain of a women riding on her bike.

Plus

The romance between the lead characters was portrayed beautifully with a strong characterization for the female lead played by Priyanka, who utters foul words boldly like a native inhabitant of the slum. The interesting plot line is let down by a poor sketching of characters who go directionless in the second half.

Minus

The narration of Igor largely depends on comedy and it fails on serious scenes when he attempts to weave comedy elements in between. The supporting cast produce newbie performances and the screenplay is dreary considering the confident plot.

Bottomline

Vandha Mala is a poorly devised comedy drama from Igor, who makes yet another lackluster film as his second feature.

Verdict : A poorly narrated comedy drama

Stars : 2/5
