Vennila Veedu - Touching and realistic
The Friday releases are beyond the expected perceptions as there is plethora of flicks hitting screens this Friday.Vennila Veedu, as you hear the title, there seems to be a great assumption that it is a family based story and yes director Vetri Mahalingam has come up with a film that boasts of a unique script.
Story
Mirchi Senthil and Vijayalakshmi play the newlywed middle-class couple and they reside in an apartment. They become acquainted with their neighbours, who are rich. Sooner, when an occasion of marriage invitation comes towards the middle-class couple, Vijayalakshmi requests the rich lady to give her some jewels so that she would return it after the ceremony. The jewels worth Rs. 25 Lakhs are given to her and on the return; they are snatched by mysterious persons. What happens next? Will the couple be able to find out who are the culprits and claim back their lost ones? Or would they be declared as the criminals by the rich couple who gave them jewels forms crux of the story.
Performance
Almost everyone in the cast has done a splendid job and they have breathed their complete life into the characterisations they have enacted. Director Vetri Mahalingam deserves special mention for sketching characters with some excellence. Senthil as Karthik establishes a matured performance and Vijayalakshmi as his wife Thenmozhi gets a substantial role for the first time. Others in the cast that includes Pandi, VJ Settai Senthil and VJ Dindigul Saravanan are okay.
Plus
As mentioned earlier, no one has touched this genre of films before and this is something new to the Tamil audiences. The basic theme of how the life differs between village and city was earlier showcased in Sasikumar’s Easan and now this one does some justice to this concept. The dramatic narration gives us feel of being taken back to the late 80s, but nowhere stumbles upon the screenplay and has a pleasant appeal with some twists during second half.
Minus
When it comes to narration, the film is commendable, but technically it fails to deliver the top-notch quality. Budget constraints, might be? Perhaps, it doesn’t fit to the commercial zone, but has some realistic approach to the script, which eclipses over the minus traits.
On the whole, ‘Vennila Veedu’ has a good theme and has been narrated with neatness with decorous performances.
Verdict : Touching and realistic
Stars : 2.5/5
