Vilasam - Watch out in your leisure time
Not long back in time, director Suseenthiran made a film titled ‘Aadhalal Kadhal Seiveer’ that was based on how the teenage infatuations and pre-marital sex ruins the lives of many innocent children desolated as orphans. Director P. Raja Ganesan comes up with a similar theme, but with an extended version of Suseenthiran’s films not though literally, but what if it is a sequel that the child in climax grows up.
Pawan plays the role named See Saw, a thug who is often taken behind the prison bars for many reasons. Once, he commits a murder on contractor (Raj Kapoor) and somehow manages to escape from the clutches of police. See Saw along with his belle Abhi (Sanam Shetty) is now on the pursuit of his parents, who had forsaken him. Finally, does he find them? What does he actually reciprocate and how forms crux of the story.
Performances
To start off with the performances of the actors, everyone has done their parts well. Pawan has exerted some nuance acting. He has been always best in his performance and now does his part well. Sanam Shetty as Pawan’s ladylove is okay. Naan Kadavul Rajendran evokes the best laughter with his hilarious spell, which can be regarded much on pars with Vadivelu in Thalai Nagaram. Bose Venkat and Sharmila as the parents of Pawan have done their portions well. Chetan as doctor does justice to his role.
Plus
The narrative style of director Raja Ganesan is commendable and his screenplay is quite engaging that makes it appropriate for the audiences to watch out. The cinematography by UK Senthil is laudable. The basic plot of this film is convincing although we have seen many movies of this sort. The duration is just 2 hours and the crispy narration is engrossing.
Minus
The star-cast is quite familiar, but then it could have been yet more with some prominence that would have made Vilasam more appealing. The songs don’t have so much of importance.
On the whole, Vilasam is interesting in parts and can be watched without any hesitation as it doesn’t bore you anywhere.
Verdict : Watch out in your leisure time
Stars : 2/5
